Affiliate Business Tips

Presell like a pro

The most important thing you can do to increase your affiliate commissions is to presell properly.

Before we begin, we need to first define what preselling is. There are two components to it – art & science. The goal is to get your reader prepped to make a purchase. Then you send them to the site that sells what you’ve prepared them for. And when it’s done correctly, they don’t know it’s happening.

In a nutshell, you provide value. And give them a link to the product you’re preselling. In a second we’ll talk about how to do actually it. First, it’s important to understand why we do it. Just a few of the reasons you want to presell.

  • Preselling creates trust – And gaining the trust of your readers helps them want to click your links. And the more traffic you can send to the sale page, the more commissions you’ll earn.
  • Preselling is disarming – Nobody likes to be sold something. By not doing that to them, your reader is less defensive. This means they are more open to what you’re saying. And your intention is conveyed more easily.
  • It creates buying readiness – Your readers are now receiving your message. And in turn, they’re open to other messages, as well. This includes the sales website you send them to! Sending them to the sales page in this state makes them more receptive to the actual pitch.
  • Your commissions go up – Now your reader arrives at the sales page in a buying mood. With a feeling of trust and openness. This dramatically boosts your sales rate!
  • It increases customer satisfaction – Plus, they feel they’ve made the buying decision on their own. Versus being pitched or convinced. So they are happier with their purchase.
  • Preselling increases your bottom line – Happy customers ask for refunds much less often. Which means you keep more of your affiliate commissions.

The need to presell is clear. You earn more commissions. Your customers are happier. Everybody wins!

OK, so how do you do it?

Now you know whey preselling is critical. And I hope you’re resolved to being preselling, too. So, let’s talk about how to make it work. Like we talked about before, it’s an art. And it’s a science.

Becoming an artist

Effective preselling requires gaining your readers trust in order for them to let down their guard. This can only be accomplished by providing actual value in the information you’re presenting. Now, providing enough info to be useful, but still making them want more – that’s the art of it. The idea is that they want more and the sales page you send them to gives them more. And since they’re more open, they are more likely to make a purchase.

Scientific preselling

There’s also a specific formula you need to follow.

One of these key elements is the presentation of the information. You have to have your end in mind. In the end, you want to sell a specific product. There are two ways to accomplish this with great content. One way is to give them enough info to whet the appetite, but not enough to satisfy it. The second way is to provide all the information and let your reader discover how hard it is to actually implement it. In either case, the product you’re referring them to solves the problem for them.

Next, you have to use “convert linking” methods. Instead, you use a direct link to the product website. This increases your clicks. But how will you earn affiliate commissions if you don’t use your affiliate link? There’s a trick to make this work… You use the “covert cookie” strategy.

The next trick is to hyperlink specific words and phrases inside the content of the article you’re providing. People are used to clicking on hyperlinked words to get information they’re looking for. Plus, if you link on relevant words, it only makes sense to click on there.

Putting all of this together creates a powerful affiliate marketing formula for success.

OK, here’s the not-so-good news:

Doing all of this right is really hard! Let’s look at the skills required to pull it off: Good content. The entire process depends on your being able to provide useful information to your readers. This means you have to be able to write well, and have enough knowledge to be useful. Strategic writing. First, you have to give good information. You also have to present the info in a way that provides real value. While at the same time making them want more. Or provide so much information that they see how hard it will be to implement.

Picking products. Next, you’ve got to pick the right product to presell. Even if you get the article written. You’ve wasted all your effort if the product doesn’t sell well.

Techy stuff. One of the keys to this system is using “covert cookies” for the tracking. This is actually pretty simple – just embed a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image and set your affiliate link as the “source” of the image. (But if you mess it up, your referrals won’t be tracked.)

In closing:

Now you know what it takes to be a Presell Pro. Preselling properly will boost your affiliate profits up to 500%! So, start now and develop preselling content for all your affiliate promotions. Don’t wait another minute. The effort it takes is well worth the benefits…
